Saturday 19th September 2009 - Nelsonica 09 at the Crown Hotel, Harrogate
Live from the Dream Transmission Pavillion. For more details please click on http://www.nelsonica.com.
Ged, Julie, Mark and Faye are attending this years Bill Nelson fan convention. We are thrilled that Bill and the Nelsonica team have once again kindly invited the Foundation to be the nominated charity at this years event. Ged will give a half hour presentation to the attendees about the progress of Saras charity. Bill has once again demonstrated his wonderful support for the project by composing and recording a third track for the charity. Following the great success of "Six Strings For Sara" and "A Million Whistling Milkmen" which raised a substantial amount of funds for the Foundation, the new track entitled "Rocket to the Moon" will be released on Sunday 25th October (Saras birthday). It promises to be a very special vocal track.

"It´s a really happy-go-lucky little ditty. Harks back to the most chirpy and jolly poptastic days of my ´70´s career. Catchy as a catchy thing too!" Bill Nelson, August 2009.

"The support that Saras charity has received from the Nelsonica community has been heart warming and Bill Nelson is an inspiration to us all. The Nelsonica team and community have really taken the project to their hearts and in the last three years, they have raised in excess of £5,000 for the charity. We recently received a donation from a fellow Nelsonian, Sarah, who recently lost her partner Tony. It was Sarah´s wish that everyone attending Tony´s funeral should make a donation to Saras charity - this was extremely touching for our family. I had the pleasure of meeting Tony and Sarah many years ago and was deeply shocked to hear the sad news - Tony was a lovely man who will be missed by us all" Ged Hoburn, Sept 2009.
Watch this space for more news about this very special event soon ......
Nelsonica 09 Update
Julie, Mark, Faye and I would like to say a sincere thank you to everyone who attended this years wonderful event. Each year our family are overwhelmed with the amazing support that Saras Hope Foundation receives from Bill and the good folks of Dreamsville and the Nelsonica Convention.
This weekend was very special and the fantastic support and good wishes we received really touched us all. For some reason Bill´s music connects with a very special and caing group of people and it feels like we all belong to a big family. Never in our wildest dreams could we imagine that Bill would compose and record three amazing and unique tracks for Saras charity. Standing on the stage made us realise how fortunate we are to be part of this family. It was a proud and emotional moment hearing Bill play "Rocket to the Moon" live and we are positive Sara would be smiling down from the stars. This track will be released on download on the 25th October (Sara's birthday).
It was so nice to meet up with everyone again and it was a weekend that we will treasure forever. Thank you to everyone who very kindly made donations, there are far too many to list but Julie and I were so overwhelmed by your generosity. We would also like to say a million thanks to everyone in the Nelsonica team and to Martin Bostock, Ian Haydock, Eddie Mc Sheffrey, Garry Nichol and Stuart Gray for their generosity with the charity auction items and to Ian Gilby for bidding so generously! The highly talented Dave Graham and Ian Clarke came up trumps with the excellent sleeve and posters.
The Foundation raised approxinmately £1,100 from the day - which is a tremendous achievement.
Last but not least we would like to thank Bill and Emi from the bottom of our hearts, it is an honour to have your loyal and valued support and we sincerely appreciate everything you have done for our family and Saras charity - you are a very special couple.

Sunday 16th August 2009 - Charity Real Ale launch
We have some exciting news. Leigh and Pauline from the Monkseaton Arms are launching a new local real ale this weekend called "Monkseaton Ale", but the good news doesn´t end there. Leigh, supported by the Wylam Brewery, has very kindly offered to donate 10p from every pint they sell to Saras Hope Foundation. This is a fantastic gesture and Leigh and his team hope to raise between £500 to £1000 for the charity. This money will be used to help fit out the children´s play room in the holiday retreat i.e . pc / playstation games etc.
To mark this fantastic gesture, Leigh and Pauline, with help from Saras Hope Foundation, have organised the official launch of the Monkseaton Ale this Sunday 16th August. The day begins at 11am with a chance for the press / media people to take photos and have interviews. Afterwards there is lots of fun and games organised for the children and adults, including an adults bouncy castle, face painting, t-shirt design, darts challenge, raffles, auctions and a few surprises ????????????
We also have the excellent Toxic Pixies playing live at 4pm, please click on the following link to take a look at this young and talented band http://www.myspace.com/toxicpixiesshuddupman.
There will also be an opportunity for all you budding Madonnas and Robbie Williams to show your talents on the karaoke.
A million thanks to Leigh and Pauline and Wylam Breweries. Please come along and support this unique and special event.
Cheers Ged and Julie xx
Update - Comment from Leigh from the Monkseaton Arms
I took over as manager of The Monkseaton Arms last year in June 08. Since that day we have looked to improve the links between oursleves and the local community to bring back the community village pub feel. I first met Ged & Julie of the Saras Hope Foundation last summer when we held our first charity day. We donated all our collected money to them and they provided us with some fantastic support on the day even though they had a pre-arranged event of there own to manage. It is then that I first heard exactly what the charity is all about. I am sure you are already aware of their tremendous work in the memory of their daughter Sara.
The story touched both my partner Pauline and my heart because we have a young child of our own and although we are blessed to have Daniel, who is a normal healthy child it always brings it home how lucky we are when you hear stories like Saras and the strength that she has not only given in her short life to her parents Ged & Julie, but also to so many others.
Since then we have always kept in contact and looked at every opportunity to support them. Recently 5 of my staff done the ´Saras Walk Of Hope´ so it is not just the management of the pub who are involved, it is actually embraced by all the team.
Bringing things up to date our company Orchid Pubs & Dining ltd has supported us in launching our own brand of real ale which will become a permanent fixture all year round and for every pint we sell 10p will be donated to the Saras Hope Foundation and 5p from every half. The ale will be called ´Monkseaton Ale´ and is branded with a picture of a monkey drinking from a tankard. This supports the locals nickname for the pub which of course is simply ´The Monky Arms´. We display a tombstone blackboard to show exactly where the donation on every purchase goes. The ale itself is brewed for us by Wylam Brewery who have been excellent in their support and are fully behind the cause we are donating this money too and were only too glad to help. We have chosen an ale with an ABV of 4% and is made of all gold ingredients - pale Malt, golden naked oats, first gold hops, with a willamette hop finish. It is fresh and clean in flavour with a hint of grapefruit citrus from the willamete late hops for all the real ale boffins out there. In short my description would be it has a lovely clean taste that is smooth to drink and enjoyed by many, Ha Ha!
To help us launch our very own, unique, new ale we are holding our annual charity day this weekend, Sunday 16th August, which we expect will be a busy one. We have organised a number of activities which include...Bouncy castle for both kids & adults, darts challange, we have live music with the Toxic Pixies around 4pm followed by a raffle/auction and then a karaoke & disco to see out the rest of the night and there will be opportunities to donate to our chosen charity all night long!!
Our Company ´Orchid Pubs & Dining´ has done wonders to link in a mini refurb this week so we can show off our brand new look this weekend also. We now have the perfect feel and atmosphere to be the leading Community Pub in the whole of the north east in my opinion and this weekend is only the beggining of our new drive to put the Monkseaton Arms back on the map. But the reason behind this should not be forgotten. It is the Saras Hope Foundation that has inspired us to launch the Monkseaton Ale and it is the great work that they do that has meant once again we would like to donate this year and continuously, through our own branded Monkseaton Arms Ale, towards this worthy local cause.
Warmest regards
Leigh Dryden
Manager
