Julie and Ged were thrilled to receive the following message from former Steps member Lisa Scott Lee. Sara was a huge ´Steps´ fan and one of her highlights was meeting the band backstage at the City Hall in 2000. The tour manager of the band kindly gave Sara VIP passes to see the band in Birmingham after she missed the Newcastle Arena concert as she was in the Intensive Care unit suffering from pneumonia. As usual Sara ´bounced´ back and danced and sang at the Birmingham Arena to her favourite band.

5th August 2008 - Julie and Geds Cretan Adventure
Every time we visit the island we realise that the Foundation has chosen the perfect location for the Retreat. The friendliness, passion and warmth of the people is amazing. The first week was a ´holiday´ - chilling by the pool, sampling the delicious Greek cuisine, meeting up with special friends and enjoying the wonderful laid back lifestyle and culture of the islanders. The first week seemed to go very slowly but the second week flew by .......
Highlights were a meal with the Chania Rotarian´s, what a fantastic group of people, who we were introduced to by the Wansbeck Rotarians. The night was a great success and the Chania Club are so enthusiastic about the project, they have pledged to support the Foundation on the island and are extremely proud that we had chosen ´their´ island to build the Retreat. In the past year the Club have raised vast amounts of cash for leukaemia research and for a house in Heraklion for parents to stay while their child is in hospital.
The hospitality, kindness and enthusiasm of Emmanoyel Delakis (Deputy Governor and President 2009-10) Nodarakis Emmanoyel (Assistant Governor) and Meletios Oirrrrroutzoglou (Head of Public and International Relations) was first class. It was lovely to share the experience and night with the lovely Dimitra (our Lawyer) and Pat Procter, a very special friend who has recently accepted our invitation to be the Foundations Co ordinator on the island.
A million thanks to the Chania Rotarian´s and we look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with this special group of people. To visit the Chania Rotarians web site click Here
We also viewed several plots of land, one which in particular really stood out (please see photos). It is in the Kambia area and it brought a tear to our eyes. It was perfect and had that ´special feeling´ with breath taking views. Please click Here for the full story, featured in the Sunday Sun newspaper.

1st April 2008 - A Message from Megs and Bob Wilson (The Willow Foundation)
Thank you so much for your email regarding the charity you have set up in memory of Sara. What amazing work you have done since you lost your beautiful daughter and how proud she would be of all your efforts in her name. I have been onto your web site and it is extremely comprehensive and informative. You seem to have created much enthusiasm for the work that you are doing and it´s good to know that so many people are supporting you.
You and Julie had a very special daughter and you will have some wonderful memories of your life together that will be with you for the rest of your life. How mature she was for her 14 years to write a book of her experience and how helpful that will be for others in her position. She was very lucky to be able to be nursed in a Teenage Cancer Trust Ward as they are so specific in the needs of young teenagers. Your idea to create a house in Crete for those children living with cancer is a wonderful one and we wish you all the luck in the world in progressing it.
Ged and Julie say
We were delighted to receive the above kind words from the lovely Megs and Bob Wilson (former Arsenal and Scotland goalkeeper and TV presenter). The couple set up The Willow Foundation in 1999 in memory of their beautiful and courageous daughter, Anna who died of cancer shortly before her 32nd birthday. The charity´s name, ´Willow´ stems from Anna´s nickname and its aim is to replicate the positive impact special days had on both Anna and her family during her treatment.

3rd March 2008 - A place in the Sun Exhibition
On Saturday 1st March, we attended the ´A Place in the Sun´ Live Exhibition at the Manchester G MEX Arena. It was very emotional and special meeting up with Amanda again and she was her usual lovely and very beautiful self. We honestly believe that being filmed for the Channel 4 series gave us the confidence to go for our dream and Amanda´s friendship and support has been so valuable to our family.
We were accompanied by our good friends and fellow Sara´s Hope Foundation members Lisa, Jack, Lyn and Keith (who paid for the weekend out of their own pockets). We are so lucky to have so many kind and dedicated people promoting the charity.
The day was a fabulous success and we made lots of new friends and contacts from the audience and the property exhibitors. Amanda was absolutely terrific and made us feel so welcome - she gave us lots of wonderful ´plugs´ from the stage, resulting in us receiving lots of attention from the attendees of the event. Amanda also kindly wore her Sara´s Hope Foundation T Shirt for some publicity shots and signed some T shirts which we plan to auction at future fund raising events. It was a pleasure to meet the lovely Jasmine and Jonnie (Presenters of A Place in the Sun Home and Away) and Ryan Philpott and David Keeling who were comperes for the show. We also met up with the team who publish the ´A Place in the Sun´ Magazine - special thanks to Sophie Collins the PR person and everyone in the Green Room who made us feel so welcome and did not even mind having to step over Faye´s art materials which were spread across the floor !!!!!
It was a day we will all treasure forever and Amanda was a star, so kind and caring and spending time with us, despite her busy schedule. The highlight of the day was a quiet moment when Julie and I had some time with Amanda in the Green Room - Julie asked the question - "Amanda we would be thrilled if you would consider accepting our invitation to be Patron of the Sara´s Hope Foundation" - without a seconds pause Amanda replied - "Of course I will, it would be an honour". Julie and I were thrilled and elated as we hugged our new Patron of the charity. We know in our hearts that Sara would be thrilled to have Amanda as the Patron, she is such an enthusiastic, caring and sensitive person who will be a tremendous asset to the Foundation.
It was a day we will never forget and Amanda and the team from the ´A Place in the Sun´ event were so supportive and kind to us all. Also a million thanks to Lisa, Jack, Lyn and Keith - we couldn´t have done it without you guys.
A sincere thank you from Julie, Ged and Faye xxx

They kindly sent us some signed photos and a copy of Coleens new fitness DVD to auction. One of our most treasured memories of Sara was her smiling and laughing with me while on holiday in Lanzarote in October 2000 after completing all of her treatment. We were all so happy and optimistic - the music playing at the time was I´m in the mood for dancing by Coleen and her sisters. Little did we know what was around the corner and that on her return to the UK tests showed the dreadful illness had returned.
