The New Retreat

The New Retreat

Since 2007, Saras Hope Foundation has had its Retreat in Crete, giving children suffering from cancer a place to rest and relax with their families, away from all the trauma and stress involved with this terrible illness.

We opened the 400 appeal in 2014 to raise the £400,000 needed to purchase The Retreat outright. During this time our loyal supporters and benefactors have raised an amazing £128,000 . We can’t thank each and every one of you enough for helping us well on our way to that target.

However, having been at the retreat now for these past 6 years, we have decided that it is not ideal for our visiting families. Our long held dream of building a custom designed Retreat is about to become a reality, thanks to your donations and our supporters both on Crete and in the U.K.

A beautiful plot of land, with amazing views of the sea has been sourced and building work will start as soon as possible.

The family accommodation will be all on one level, with wheel chair access, three bedrooms, a wet room, kitchen and a big family space, with lots of room and easy access to a beautiful swimming pool with toddler area. There will also be a play area, quiet contemplation space and a BBQ area.

Ged and Julie Hoburn, founders of Saras Hope Foundation, who are our Retreat managers, will have a two bedroomed, self-contained annex as part of the complex.

Lifestyle Homes have taken on this project with as much enthusiasm as we have and have listened very carefully to all the ideas for our brand new Retreat. The cost for the build will be €382,000 with some additional costs for landscaping etc.

As you can see, we don’t have all the funds needed as yet to complete the project.

We need your help to realise this dream to create smiles and lasting memories for all the brave children who come to the Retreat.

By donating £1000 or more, you will have your name on a special wall we are building, as a lasting thank you to all who have been so generous and made the new Retreat happen.

Completion is targeted for mid 2018 and with your help we will achieve our goal.

We will keep you fully updated at every stage of the build.

Below you can see photographs of the land and architects drawings.
